Missouri couple facing drug charges missing

Two Northwest Missouri residents are believed to have written a fake suicide note before jumping $50,000 bonds.
Independence, Mo., bail bondsman Chris Baker is conducting a statewide search for Timothy and Cindy Holbrook.

The couple failed to appear in Nodaway County Circuit Court Sept. 8, Mr. Baker said. Judge Roger Prokes issued a failure-to-appear warrant for their arrest.

Their truck was found on Interstate 435 by the Missouri River in Kansas City, Kan.

The Kansas Highway Patrol found a suicide note inside that claimed the couple “were depressed because of facing time” and that they “decided to jump in the river,” Mr. Baker said.

The couple is facing charges for possessing, manufacturing and producing a controlled substance. They also are charged with receiving stolen property and stealing, Mr. Baker said.

The couple and Ms. Holbrook’s son, Trustin Williams, were arrested in September 2002 after the Gentry County Sheriff’s Department recovered stolen livestock, motor vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, a tractor, farming tools, and equipment and household goods at their Gentry County, Missouri home.

Also, more than 380 growing marijuana plants were found in two locations on their residence.

The crimes occurred in Gentry County but the cases were being heard in Nodaway County because of a change of venue, Mr. Baker said.

There also are additional, similar charges against the Holbrooks in Morgan County.

Mr. Baker located Mr. Williams and placed him under arrest, but Mr. Holbrook and his 41-year-old wife, who goes by the first name of Josephine or by the last name of Williams, still haven’t been found.

Mr. Holbrook, 36, had been diagnosed with having bipolar and manic depressive tendencies. Mr. Holbrook had been on medication, which originally made Mr. Baker think a murder-suicide could have occurred.

He said a search of the river was conducted, but that their bodies weren’t located.

“There’s a possibility is was a fake,” Mr. Baker said of the suicide note.

Mr. Baker is looking to speak with witnesses who may have seen the couple leave the truck near the river or get into another car near where the truck was left.

He believes the couple is traveling in a cream or green 1987 Dodge truck. He thinks they are still in Missouri.

“I think they are anywhere from Albany to Versailles,” Mr. Baker said.

He said the couple has family at the Lake of the Ozarks and in the Kansas City area and could be staying at campgrounds or state parks. He also has received tips that the couple may be in Texas or Mexico.

Mr. Baker said the truck could have a trailer or a camper attached.

Mr. Baker is offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to their arrest. He said Mr. Holbrook’s mother and step-father, who co-signed the bond, haven’t been cooperative with Missouri authorities.
